For many cyclists and triathletes, concern over our FTP (Functional Threshold Power) dominates our quest for greater fitness gains. However, whilst we seek to pin a specific power number to it, it’s important to remember your FTP is an attempt to isolate your aerobic threshold. In reality this tipping point between aerobic and anaerobic sits within a power range and fluctuates on a daily basis due to a number of different variables.

It also goes down as well as up! So regular testing is key, particularly if you’ve had some time off the bike or you may not actually be performing the training session you think you are by neglecting to put it down.
